The Color Run in Los Angeles last year was SUCH a fun event I had to do a few more edits and repost this video. This was one was CRAZY to make because it includes slow motion color dust footage of Color Runners with the Polaroid Cube, as well as some crazy telescopic GoPro shots with my ‘super sturdy selfie stick’ all from Dodger Stadium in LA.

The main feature of The Color Run is the continued dustings of colorful powder until you cross the finish line to reach the color crazed party. The epic ending is complete with a DJ dropping beats in sync with mass color throws, a high-powered bubble machine, and lots of crazy color runners and photographers enjoying the rainbow mess.

This year’s Color Run 2017 will also feature a cloud foam zone and unicorn medal of completion for all Color Runners. You can sign up for a Color Run 2017 here- they have dates all over the US this summer!

HERE’S HOW I FILMED IT

The crazy wide shot footage
The slow and smooth shots
The vlogging shots
The best stick for this event

Obviously The Color Run can get quite messy, and although it’s not quite as bad as being in a wet environment, I decided to stay on the safe side and only use water proof and water resistant action cameras, plus my iPhone, which seemed fairly safe from the powder due to its smooth nature and lack of mechanical parts.

There were a few photographers brave enough to bring their DSLR camera- most of them were dedicated to filming the event rather than attempting to run it. I did see some of them with plastic wrapped around the camera body and lenses. The color chalk would not immediately destroy a camera the same way water would, but it can easily get stuck in small parts of a camera and become extremely difficult to remove- possibly resulting in function failure.

When attempting to film a Color Run event, it’s definitely helpful to have clean hand towels and even compressed air on hand to remove the chalk. It doesn’t necessarily respond to water any better than it does a simple brushing or blowing away.

So get out there to the Color Run event, be as safe as you can with your gear, and good luck!
