Last week my husband, Brian, flew out to San Diego to meet with a man.
He had spent months tracking down such a man, one who was in a position to sell him something he wanted.
An Airstream Westfalia Sprinter Mercedez-Benz CAMPER VAN!
This Airstream Westfalia camper van is so rare, that it is not often they turn up on the market for sale. Only 250 of them were sent to the US from Europe, and this was around the years of 2004 / 2005.
What Brian loved about this van, was that it has the brilliant fit and finish of an Airstream, yet it’s a Westfalia- which means it’s a van that is specifically designed to convert to a comfortable living space.
Paired with the placement on a Sprinter chassis, and sporting the engine of a Mercedez- Benz, he thought this was the perfect starter RV for our little family of 2.5!
The van features two ‘captain chairs’ for the driver and passenger, which spin around to offer additional living room seating. The center bench seat can become a bed, or a table if you pop-up the attachment. Best of all, there is a large bed up top that we can sleep in comfortably!
There is a kitchen, refrigerator, microwave, bathroom with a ‘wet bath’ shower. For entertainment, we have the most cutting edge feature of all- a DVD player!
Well, maybe it was in 2005 😆
We like the van option over a larger RV because you can park and sleep on any city street while on the go! No need to coordinate and book RV sites- although you can do that too!
Here is a peek at our new travel companion and a tour of its brilliant functionality! Stay tuned to AMaeTV for many more adventures in our new vehicular home away from home, ‘The Westy’.

We’re so excited to begin planning adventures in our camper van!
We’ll begin in Florida, and eventually branch out. I’m sure we will go cross country again one day!
I look forward to learning more about #vanlife and also experimenting with road trips with our baby daughter, Ella Bunny. She does not like to ride in cars for long periods of time, but hopefully the van will provide a much more flexible ride since we can do so much more in it while on the road.
By the way, I shot most of this video with my GoPro Hero6. It did very well in the odd van lighting and the wide-angle lens was definitely put to good use!
