Top 10 Things To Do In Dubai

1. VISIT A DUBAI MALL

In Dubai, you simply must go to one of their elaborate malls. There is the larger, more extravagant Dubai Mall as well as the smaller, Mall of the Emirates. Within these structures you’ll find crazy architecture, fountains, and aquariums (complete with sharks). You’ll find ski slopes, ice skating rinks, and every store you can imagine. The Dubai Mall is right next to the Dubai Fountain and offers a great place to view the Burj Khalifa as well. For a more complete picture of the malls and shopping in Dubai, take a peek at my most popular video of all time – Shopping In Dubai

2. DUBAI FOUNTAIN

The Dubai Fountain is the biggest choreographed fountain display in all of the world- yes, bigger than the one in Las Vegas. It was, in fact, designed by the same group who did the Bellagio fountains, hence the resemblance in the lighting and delicate way in which the waters dance.

Some say that you can even see the lights of the fountain from.. wait for it.. SPACE.

The Dubai Fountain is conveniently located right outside of the Dubai Mall, although getting to the correct wing downstairs can be tricky. Head down early and pick up a fresh fruit smoothie to take to the show. I’m crazy about Papaya and they literally just blended up mass amounts of fresh, straight papaya for me!

The Dubai Fountain presents an evening show every 30 minutes going from 6 till 11pm. More details on show times here: The Dubai Fountain

A special thanks to Jon Miller from The Rest of Everest for filming this for me! As my SecureNinjaTV Producer it’s great to have him a long on the work related trips. His videography is amazing not only in my videos, but his own. Here is his most popular video- Flying A Drone At Mt. Everest– which he casually filmed with his quadcopter drone!

3. BURJ KHALIFA

The Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world and is home to 30,000 residences and 9 hotels, one of which is the Armani Hotel. Like The Dubai Fountain, Sheik Maktoum decided to have The Burj Khalifa built to make Dubai appear as extraordinary as possible. You can buy tickets to take the trip to the top at the ticket center on the ground floor of the Dubai Mall. If you walk inside from the fountain (past the mango smoothie stand) you will find it near the Burj Khalifa gift shop.

4. ARABIAN DESERT

I think the best thing to do in Dubai is definitely a Desert Safari Tour. This one began with a ride to the desert, outside of the city of Dubai and close to the border of Oman. Our guide then let the tire pressure out of his Land Rover and took us SAND BASHING- which was utterly terrifying.

Having the motion tolerance of a 5 year old, I was not a fan of the ride in general. But for me, it was a well worth it means to an end. I was on my way to live out my dream of riding a camel in the desert! After stopping to enjoy the beautiful desert sunset- which was just as remarkable as it sounds- we arrived at a dinner camp which was essentially set up for tourists to enjoy their holiday in Dubai desert experience. This place was AWESOME and gave us camel rides, beer, food, hookah, some small souvenir shopping opportunities, several elaborate dance show performances, and most importantly, glitter henna!

Clearly this experience deserved its own video, so enjoy that here..

Am I ridiculous with how much I loved this camel? I can’t help it, he was BEAUTIFUL and his long pretty eyelashes were soulful and kind.

5. A DUBAI MOSQUE

The Al Farooq Mosque is a lovely place of Islam worship and an nice experience for your holiday in Dubai. It’s one of many mosques in Dubai, but particularly unique because it is modeled exactly after the Blue Mosque in Istanbul. I actually have been to the Blue Mosque in Istanbul and let me tell you, The Al Farooq was MUCH more calm, quiet and enjoyable. Not that the Blue Mosque wasn’t amazing too in its own grand mosque, tourist filled way.

Rules for the Al Farooq Mosque (and most others) is that you must be covered head to ankles, and you must remove your shoes. They are so kind to lend anybody who needs it their traditional abaya and hijab for your head.

The mosque is also air conditioned, which is a nice break from the 120 degree temperature of spring.

6. DUBAI’S ROYAL PALACE

Visiting peacocks outside of the Royal Palace, aka Zabeel Palace, is a fun and free activity for your holiday in Dubai. We had a tour driver taking us around, but if you did have your own transportation you could simply drive up to the outskirts of the palace and look for where other tour cars are parked. Then just pull over on the side of the road and enjoy the peacocks!

If your dreams of this experience are as magical as mine you will likely expect a splendid peacock to spread his feathers and strut around right before your camera. This is unlikely as these guys do tend to be a bit shy at times. I had to work at it using my own peacock calls to get mine to simply stand up for me. That little experience is in the Tour of Dubai video here

The Royal Palace is home to Shiekh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and is located near Zabeel park.

7. DUBAI’S GOLD SOUK

The Gold Souk, or Gold Souq of Dubai is a medium sized market space that primarily sells 22K and 24K gold priced by the gram. The price of gold jewelry in Dubai involves factors like weight, craftsmanship, and the rate of the gold commodity for the day. It gets super confusing to compare prices considering the haggling process so if you are truly looking for the best deal on gold be prepared for a brain workout. I did a lot of research before I went to learn about gold pricing and I was not able to learn a ton. I wanted to know how much this ring would cost.

It ended up costing about $240 and it is 22K gold. I hope that helps! More on this magical ring here: The Gold Ring Of Dubai

Even if you don’t go to Dubai’s Gold Souk to buy gold, you will have a rich cultural experience just by visiting it, not to mention the photo opportunities are spectacular! You can also shop for other jewels, silver, souvenirs and various drinks or snacks. Just PLEASE don’t buy fake designer hand bags or watches- you will be asked over and over again if you are looking for them.

Why? Because Fake Is Never In Fashion!

8. JUMERIAH

If Dubai were Miami, then Jumeriah would be the South Beach of Dubai. It’s the ultimate luxury beach vacation spot and is home to the Palm Islands, which are man made sand masses designed to replicate a palm tree when viewed from above.

Jumeriah is home to The Atlantis, as well as The Burj Al Arab, which is a super luxury hotel in Dubai, and the only 7 star hotel in the world.

9. DUBAI MUSEUM

If you’re looking for educational things to do in Dubai, I recommend the The Dubai Museum-  situated inside and throughout underground tunnels below a fort built in 1787. The fort is situated inside the bustling city, yet is the oldest existing building in Dubai. Through roaming the museum, you will witness how the people of Dubai lived in the 1800’s and learn how the city of Dubai was developed from a small fishing town.

The Dubai Museum is a highly educational experience on the history of Dubai and includes tons of interesting, yet slightly creepy underground exhibits. Plan to spend several hours getting through them all, but plan to enjoy the underground air conditioning while doing so!

Many day long driving tours will include The Dubai Museum as a highlight.

10. SKI DUBAI

And finally the moment you’ve been waiting for, the most sensational attraction in Dubai!

Ski Dubai is the first indoor ski slope built in the middle east, and it actually functions as a fun winter park for the whole family. You will find mostly kids and families enjoying the various snow related activities, although occasionally they will get a pro skier (from out of town) in there to tear up the slopes.

Here’s a 15 second mini Instagram video of the slopes at Ski Dubai

Ski Dubai is located inside of the Mall Of The Emirates and allows you to plan for your trip and purchase ski tickets here at Play Mania.
