Swimming with whale sharks in Oslob is one of the most amazing experiences the Philippines has to offer, and one of the best overall experiences I had while creating this 9 part Philippines Travel Video Series.

Residents of this small fishing village have developed a relationship with a group of 40,000 lb whale sharks by regularly feeding them their natural food- plankton. They invite tourists to snorkle and swim alongside the massive whale sharks during the gathering via a tour that costs about $20.

Oslob is located on the island of Cebu, and you can choose among many areas to accommodate you surrounding your trip to swim with the whale sharks.

I was thrilled to stay on Sumilon Island for my second Bluewater Resort experience. This island is a destination in itself for snorkelers and divers and the Bluewater is the only resort on the tiny, but exciting island.

Staying at this luxury resort is also the easiest way to get to the island, as they have a free boat shuttle running back and forth from the mainland on Cebu all day long.

As fun as the resort turned out to be, I couldn’t forget the main reason I was visiting the area. My whale shark encounter was everything I dreamed it would be, and the perfect way to end the Philippines travel vlog series.

As I mention in the video, there is some controversy surrounding this practice. Just for the sake of staying informed, here is an article that outlines the reasons the practice might not be the best idea. Personally, I did not witness any physical interactions or injuries to the sharks during my time in the water.
