The GoPro Hero6 is by far the BEST GoPro ever created. And although I’ve loved my GoPro Hero 4 for a very long time, there were always lots of little things that annoyed me about it- the user interface, the delay in start time, and the shakiness!

Needless to say, I’m happy to finally upgrade to the GoPro Hero6, AND to share a review with you.

The new GoPro Hero6

In this GoPro Review video, we will compare footage from the Hero4 silver and the new GoPro Hero6, which naturally will cover a lot of the upgrades that were also made to the Hero5.

Some things to note about the GoPro Hero6

It’s Waterproof

On the NEWER versions of GoPro- the Hero5 and the Hero6- you no longer need waterproof housings. Because the GoPro is now waterproof all by itself. This definitely reduces the clunkiness of the GoPro when it’s underwater, in your pocket, or in your hand.

Power To The Camera

You can also now power the camera, while it’s in use.

This can be a lifesaver if you end up with a dead battery in the MOMENT you’re trying to film something. This can also be a perfect solution to filming long time lapses.

This of course, is as long as you can manage hooking it up to an outlet or battery pack, while filming.

This here is my SOLAR POWERED BATTERY PACK.  It’s awesome for outdoor festivals, long beach days, hiking, camping…  AND it also charges your phone.

Voice Command

Both the GoPro 5 and the 6 feature the new voice command, allowing you to say things like “GoPro start recording” to start the camera.

This is insanely useful if you’ve got your hands full and you just can’t be fumbling with camera controls.

Recording Capabilities

Then of course, there are the recording capabilities. Here are the specs for the GoPro Hero4, the Hero5 and the new GoPro Hero6.

As you can see.. the The 6 is far more capable of recording at a higher frame rate, at a larger size, specifically it can film in 1080p which is full HD.. at 240fps.

The purpose of this, is to allow you to film in SUPER slow motion.

You’ve really got to watch the video to see this in action.

Electronic Image Stabilization

The GoPro 4 and versions before it essentially had no built in image stabilization- which is really bothersome for an ‘action’ camera.

Both the 5 and the 6 have EIS or electronic image stabilization.

However, the 5 only supports 2 axis stabilization on the pitch and roll axis, while the 6 supports yaw, as well as pitch and roll.

Again, watch the video to get a better grasp on this nonsense!

User Interface

I always found the user interface on the GoPro Hero4 a bit clunky. The Hero 6 simplifies things with easier swiping left and right to access options. It has also sized down to only 2 buttons offering controls, rather than 3.

Audio

Another major improvement that GoPro has made to the newer versions is the microphones. While the 4 only had one mic, the 6 has 3 mics and gives you the option of using automatic external noise reduction.

So this way the GoPro will detect which is the best mic to use, and shut out the one that’s getting a lot of wind noise.

GPS

One cool new feature on the newer GoPros is built in GPS. This was actually released on the 5 but for awhile nobody really knew why. Then, when the 6 hit the market, GoPro also released software called QUIK that uses the GPS data from the GoPro to give you the option of adding in certain measurements when you edit in Quik.GoPro 6 GPS Quik

Here we have miles per hour, a little speed tracker chart, time, elevation, altitude and distance.

Not TOO exciting on a baby stroller ride, but I imagine GoPro had more of the snowboarding type action stuff in mind.

Quik Editing App

The Quik editing platform really is something GoPro was excited to release.  The app version of Quik- or Quik Stories will digitally copy over your GoPro footage and automatically edit it for you…. it’s like, artificial intelligence editing.

To a person who edits in Final Cut Pro, this sounds bananas so I haven’t fully tried it.

If you’d like me to test out Quick Stories and make a video about it, I’d be happy to do so. Just let me know in the comments below!
